There are many ways to make your home merry and bright for potential shoppers this season. Here are just a couple that I suggest.
1. Deck the halls
Now certainly I don’t suggest drowning your house in holiday cheer, but a few well-placed decorations and adornments are likely to warm up the home. Touches like new scented candles (you don’t even need to light them), spots of green (a tree, holly, poinsettias, etc.), and holiday centerpieces don’t have to be drastic to be effective and beautiful.
2. Stick with a theme
Don’t pull out years-worth of collected, mismatched decor for this season. Dedicate this holiday to simplicity and elegance. Use decorations that accent the home rather than fight it — like matching ornaments to a wall color or using a decorative, seasonal throw for the couch in the living room.
3. Highlight the showstoppers
Use your holiday trimmings to draw focus and attention to the strong suits of your home. Spruce up a unique mantle place, hang mistletoe in an architecturally beautiful foyer, or gently frost large bay windows.
4. Twinkle twinkle little house
For your outdoor curb appeal, be tasteful with your lights, keeping the display to bright pops of color. Keep the inflatable Santa Clauses and musical light shows in storage, this time around. You don’t want to distract passerby from the actual beauty of your home by covering it in overdone decorations and lights.
5. Trim that tree
But really, trim it. You don’t want a tree that’s too large and diminishes the room. Covering up too much floor space will detract from the overall appeal of the room the tree is gracing. Just like your other decorations, make sure to keep your tree decorations cohesive and save the kids’ handmade ornaments for next year.
6. Get that fireplace going
Cold weather gives us the rare opportunity here in Texas to start up a fire, which makes a home look inviting and cozy. Or even nudge the thermostat up a bit to make sure that your potential buyers are toasty, and delaying their departure back into the cold.
7. Christmas baking, baking, baking
Another way to get potential buyers to stick around for a little bit longer is to offer hospitality, preferably in the way of baked goods. Plus, the smell will fill the whole house and add to the entire warm holiday ambiance.
So to brighten up your home for seasonal selling, decorate with thought and care and remember to keep in mind what your potential buyers want to see: the house!
