As a Realtor, it’s my job to keep an eye on housing in and around my town. Houston and The Woodlands aren’t the only areas seeing vast amounts of construction nowadays—Conroe too continues to grow, both in population and in number of homes and buildings. As the southeast part of Texas continues to stay economically strong, jobs keep attracting more residents from other cities and states, such as the addition of Houston Methodist and Texas Children’s hospitals.
And the 51.4% projected increase in Conroe permit revenue for 2015-2016 means increased sales tax revenues as people pay for new homes and fill them with new appliances and furnishings. Growth means money, money means stronger communities, a desirable characteristic for any piece of real estate.
Though the demand for homes has spiked in Conroe, developments aren’t yet taking over the edges of the city. Instead, new homes and buildings are being built inside existing neighborhoods or on previously undeveloped land within current developers’ property. The foresight of said developers during slower economic times allows construction to flourish in the heart of the town, rather than in expanding outskirts.
“It is not just developers [responding to population growth]. It is the school districts, commercial development, multifamily developers and these hospitals. When multiple people in multiple sectors are all making that same choice in the same area at the same time, it tends to breed confidence in the market.”
