A Houston Chronicle article regarding our own city of Conroe caught my eye recently stating that the area has graced the U.S. Census’ top 15 fastest-growing-cities list. With a population growth of 5.2 percent from 2013 to 2014, Conroe is the only city in the Houston area with over 50,000 people (reaching 65,871 in 2014). Only San Marcos, Georgetown, and Frisco have surpassed that growth rate here in Texas along with two other cities outside of the Lone Star State: Doral, Florida and South Jordan, Utah.
I remember when this now master-planned community was just a small section of Montgomery County, a bit of a drive from Houston with minimal developments. The Houston Chronicle now calls Conroe one of the preferred destinations for new residents in Texas, an already popular state for movers with its ample resources, available jobs, and thriving communities. Conroe itself has moved from tenth to sixth fastest-growing large city in the country over the past year.
As the population grows, so does the city to make room for all the newcomers. Camp Strake, the former Boy Scout camp, is being redeveloped into a Grand-Central-Park-like master-planned community and The Howard Hughes Corp. has future developments for the area in mind. With all this movement, buyers and sellers in the area should keep Conroe in mind for great real estate opportunities.
