Each year, Pantone Inc. — a commercial printing company considered the authority on color because of their color systems and advanced accurate color communication technology — chooses one color to be the “Color of the Year.” Each color is meant to represent that year in some form of fashion.
And Pantone has decided on 2015’s choice: Marsala, a deep terracotta red, with warm brown undertones. The color has made several appearances in the ’60s and ’70s, but is said to be better suited to our modern times. To choose each color, Pantone staff look to upcoming and current trends — looking to fashion, entertainment, and even media.
So when you start next year’s spring cleaning and redecorating, keep your eye out for pieces that quietly hint or boldly scream Marsala to bring pops of “groundedness, strength, and confidence” to your home (as described by Leatrice Eisman, Executive Director of Pantone Color Institute). But as an experienced real estate agent, I would just recommend not painting your entire house with it. Pillows, throws, art, and the like work just fine!
