Making a Grand Entrance

Posted OnJul 16, 2013

Houston is about to make headway on its newest amusement park, Grand Texas Theme Park.  The park will be located in northeast Houston and covers 640 acres of ground off of  Highway 59 and FM 242.  Chuck Hendrix, CEO of Innovative Leisure Partners LP and former general manager of Astroworld says that construction will begin this fall and phase one should finish up in 2015.  Grand Texas will consist of a water park, dining facilities, retail amenities, and an upscale RV resort (which includes 20.2 acres of land that has been sold to a third party).  Monty Galland, an investor in the project and Woodlands resident as well as project developer, has coordinated efforts with East Montgomery County Improvement District on the Grand Texas project introduced in January.  Hendrix mentions that the project itself will cost in the mid-nine figures region.

“We have enough acreage to keep us busy for a while,” Hendrix said.

Not far from this giant amusement park are the beginnings of Earth Quest, a dinosaur-themed park owned by Contour Entertainment.  However, due to lack of funds, the competing park is unable to move forward, but the company does have the option to purchase some of the land that seems to be overflowing at Grand Texas.

With all the construction and promise of up and coming entertainment, the already booming real estate industry in the Houston/Woodlands area promises to become busier.  The seller’s market will be pressed with more demand, so get ready for a larger population and more competition in real estate!
